Mandate and mission of The Friends of Stewart Hall
In 2004, a group of citizens of Pointe-Claire, including some members of the Stewart Hall Advisory Board, began to dream about a way they might make a difference for Stewart Hall and for the development of culture in their community. They met several times and, finally, their dream came a reality when, on June 1st 2004, “The Friends of Stewart Hall” officially became a corporation.  Eleven months later, on May 8 2005, the foundation obtained its charitable status.

The Friends of Stewart Hall is a not-for-profit association formed to support the community by promoting culture in collaboration with the Pointe-Claire Cultural Centre, Stewart Hall and the Stewart Hall Art Gallery. Their financial support will help Stewart Hall and the Art Gallery in their mission of enriching the quality of life of the community through culture and the arts.

In order to fulfill its mission, The Friends of Stewart Hall is permitted to accept donations from either individuals or corporations and to solicit memberships and donations. The funds are redistributed in the community through various projects supporting
Stewart Hall (equipment, special events and brochures…).

Composition of the corporation

The Friends’ Projects
The main project for The Friends of Stewart Hall is to put together a top-quality historical brochure of Stewart Hall. This will complement the guided historical tours offered every summer at Stewart Hall. It will also make the public aware of the rich heritage of what is often called the “jewel of Pointe-Claire”. In order to make this project possible, more funds are needed.

Here are some of the projects that we hope to achieve:

  • Retrospective catalogue of the exhibitions done by the Art gallery in the last five years;

  • Outdoor signpost to advertise all Stewart Hall events visible from Lakeshore Road;

  • Many projects in the communication area (general brochures and posters) in order to increase the visibility of the Cultural Centre and the Art Gallery;

  • Display / storage racks for the Art Rental and Sales Service;

  • Permanent outdoor stage;

  • and many more

Meanwhile, The Friends has provided financial support for various projects:

  • Purchase of a new computer with internet access, and audio-visual equipment for the public in the Reading and Reference Room of Stewart Hall;

  • Publication of three Exhibition Catalogues for the Art Gallery;

Fundraising Activities
A Fundraising committee, chaired by one of The Friends’ directors, has been formed in order to undertake a major corporate fundraising campaign.

A number of small (but very valuable) fundraising projects have been put together thanks to a team of volunteers chaired by  another of our Directors:

  • Permanent Used Books sale in the Reading and Reference Room at Stewart Hall

  • Sales of CD’s during most of our concerts

  • Sales of “tie-ins” during the various exhibitions for youth in the Kid’s Corner.

  • Rental of lawn chairs and refreshments during the Summer evenings in the Park Festival.
